- The program at Overflow Ministries is a Christian faith based organization providing a structured, peer supported environment for men committed to recovery. Our Houses operate on a self governing model, emphasizing personal accountability and spiritual growth.
Program Pillars: Accountability & Ministry Principles
Our success is built on adherence to core principles that govern our community and our commitment to sober living.
Self Governance and Democratic Process
- Resident-Run: Every member has a voice and a choice in the decision making. Houses utilize democratic decision making for inclusion in and expulsion from the group.
- Peer Accountability: Following the conditions of federal sober living standards, the house must utilize democratic decision making. An 80% affirmative vote is required for acceptance as a new member.
- Conflict Resolution: Conflicts are resolved objectively, focusing on agreed upon principles, and putting the house's well being first.
Recovery and Spiritual Growth
- Core Focus: Overflow Ministries is founded on Christian principles and focuses on sober living, fellowship, and discipleship.
- Meeting Requirement (Initial): New residents are required to attend a mandatory minimum of five recovery meetings per week. This is to help them get established in a structured recovery program.
- Meeting Requirement (Member): Established members must attend a mandatory minimum of three recovery meetings.
- Relapse Policy: Any member who experiences a recurrence of substance use shall be immediately expelled. This rule ensures the sobriety and safety of the entire community.
Financial and Life Responsibility
- GRACE Payment: Every member pays the same weekly expense, called GRACE (Group Rent and Cost Equally).
- Equally Shared Expenses: Members equally share all household expenses, including rent.
- Disruptive Behavior: Nonpayment of GRACE is considered disruptive behavior and may lead to a financial contract or expulsion.
Housing Structure
- Room Assignments: Moving rooms is based on length of stay (seniority) or a house vote.
- New Member Restrictions (First 30 Days): New members have restrictions on curfew (Midnight), overnights (No nights out), and guests.
- Medication: Members are responsible for their own medications, and lock boxes are required. Doctor notes and/or prescription verification may be asked.
